Junior lawyers stand for a Law Society Council seat 2019

Are you interested in representing your fellow junior lawyers on the Law Society Council?

Two Junior Lawyers Division (JLD) designated seats are currently vacant:

  • one LPC student and trainee seat (two-year term)
  • one solicitor 0-5 years’ PQE seat (four-year term)

What does the Council do?

As the Law Society’s governing body, the Council agrees the strategic direction of the Law Society’s work, including the annual business plan and budget, changes to Society policy and rules, and the focus of our efforts on behalf of our diverse membership

As a Council Member, you are also able (and encouraged) to get involved with the work of the Society’s many special interest boards and committees.

Who is eligible to stand for election?

For the LPC student and trainee seat , candidates must be:

  • trainee solicitors
  • students currently on an LPC course, or
  • students who have successfully completed their LPC course in the last 24 months but who are not on a training contract.

For the solicitor 0-5 years’ PQE seat , candidates must be qualified solicitors with no more than five years and 364 days PQE (as at the last date of nominations). PQE years are to be calculated using CRM ‘date admitted to the roll’.

As well as the two JLD Council seats, a number of geographical seats are also vacant. We would invite junior lawyers who are eligible in those constituencies to consider applying:

  • Cheshire and North Wales
  • Merseyside and District
  • Central Lancashire and Northern Greater Manchester
  • Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland
  • Leeds

The deadline for nominations is 5pm on Monday 29 April 2019 .
