SQE2 pilot recruitment now underway
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has now launched recruitment for the next phase of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) pilot.
Known as SQE2, the second stage assessment tests candidates’ ability to carry out practical legal tasks. These include client interviewing, advocacy, legal research and written advice.
The SQE1 pilot, which ran in March, tested candidates’ application of legal knowledge and involved more than 300 people.
For this pilot, candidates will be tested through role plays and written work over five days in December. They are looking for people similar to those who will eventually sit the exam.
To apply candidates should meet at least one of the following criteria:
- be a qualified lawyer in a recognised jurisdiction eligible to qualify via the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme
- be a barrister of England and Wales
- have completed the compulsory element (stage 1) of the Legal Practice Course or have education/or work experience equivalent to this
Candidates will receive £300 for completing the pilot, with the top 10 percent getting an extra £200. A number of law firms are also offering the best performing candidates work experience opportunities, such as placements, coaching and training contract assessment day places.
If you are a paralegal, legal executive, trainee or a legal advisor if may be of interest to you.
The closing date is 13 September 2019.
