Disability in the legal profession – roundtables to discuss the current position and where we go from here
Alongside our Lawyers with Disabilities Division, we’ve been supporting a project led by Professor Debbie Foster of Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University and independent researcher Dr Natasha Hirst, called "Legally Disabled?".
This project is the first of its kind to document the career experiences of disabled people working in the legal profession.
The 'Legally Disabled' survey of solicitors and paralegals found 60% had experienced ill-treatment in the workplace, and of these 80% believed it was related to disability.
In a series of roundtables, Debbie and Natasha will provide a practical and constructive overview of their research findings and recommendations. This will be followed by a discussion about actions and 'easy wins' to support firms and organisations to identify opportunities and challenges for improving disability inclusion.
In the present circumstances, all roundtables will be on Zoom:
- Monday 11 May, 12.30pm to 2pm
- Friday 22 May, 12.30pm to 2pm
- Wednesday 27 May, 9.30am to 11am
- Tuesday 2 June, 4pm to 5.30pm
If you would like to attend, email firstname.lastname@example.org specifying which roundtable. We’ll send you the joining instructions for the Zoom call.
For those wishing to read the research reports before the event, both the full report and the executive summary of findings and recommendations can be downloaded on the Legally Disabled? website.
