Society backs government pledge to 'set business free'

31 October 2013

On Monday 28 October the Law Society sponsored a business reception with backbench Conservative MPs to highlight the crucial part that law firms play in a successful economy.

In his remarks, chief executive Desmond Hudson said:

'Law firms are a crucial part of the economy... a well-functioning legal regime and system is one that is stable, provides certainty to market participants and at reasonable cost - meaning those participating can engage and transact with confidence.'

He also stressed that to remain competitive globally, the government must address the tendency to impose ever greater regulation on businesses and keep its pledge to 'set business free'.
