Cordella Bart-Stewart OBE
Council member for North Middlesex
Cordella Bart-Stewart is an immigration and asylum law specialist, with an interest in equality and human rights.
She founded Stewart & Co Solicitors in north London in 1990, where she is now a consultant.
Cordella also works as a fee-paid judge in the Immigration and Asylum Tribunal.
She is a member of the Solicitors Regulation Authority working group on the SQE and other policy issues, and is considered a thought leader and speaker on equality and human rights.
Cordella is a founding member and director of the Black Solicitors Network, a companion of the Chartered Management Institute and a director of IMPRESS, the independent monitor of the press.
She is a former independent governor of Staffordshire University, which awarded her an honorary doctorate.
In 2014, Cordella was shortlisted for Legal Personality of the Year in the Law Society Awards. In the 2021 New Year Honours, she was awarded an OBE for service to the legal profession and voluntary service to diversity and education.
