Jonathan is a founder member of the Law Society’s LGBTQ+ Solicitors Network (formerly LGBT+ Lawyers Division), having held a seat on the committee since 2016. He qualified as a solicitor in 1993.

In his day job, Jonathan is the managing partner of specialist litigation practice Bolt Burdon Kemp, which represents seriously injured people in their quest for compensation.

Formerly head of the personal injury and child abuse teams, Jonathan took over from Lynne Burdon in 2017 to lead the firm.

He was named one of the Hot 100 by the Lawyer magazine in 2006, recognising his campaigning work for victims and survivors of child abuse.

There followed the landmark House of Lords case of A v Hoare & others (2008) in which he represented two clients who successfully challenged the law of limitation for abuse claims.

That case has had a profoundly positive effect on the ability of claimants to bring claims which otherwise would have been deemed out of time.

Jonathan is a Stonewall ambassador and a champion of diversity and inclusion within the profession.

Jonathan welcomes contact from all members of the profession to inform his work on Council on behalf of LGBTQ+ members.
