The Law Society story
For over two centuries, we’ve worked with solicitors to champion access to justice and protect the rule of law.
Supporting solicitors since 1825
Founded in 1825, we later became the professional body for solicitors to support and represent the profession.
Promoting the value of the legal profession, protecting the justice system and supporting our members have been central to our work since our founding.
With over 200,000 members, who are at the heart of all we do, we’re proud of the dynamic and diverse profession we represent and its rich history.

A lasting legacy with landmark artwork
Turner Prize winner Helen Cammock is creating a unique work of art to mark our 200th year. Inspired by admissions ceremonies, our historic building and her work with solicitors, her three-part work explores justice – past, present and future.
