RICS promotes best practice through its guidance, which includes codes for conveyancing and leasing commercial property.
Code for Leasing Business Premises in England and Wales (2007)
Commercial property professionals and industry bodies representing landlords and tenants worked together to create this code.
It aims to:
- make sure commercial leases fairly represent both landlords and tenants
- increase awareness of property issues, especially among small businesses, so that tenants have the information they need to negotiate the best deal

Service Charges in Commercial Property
On 1 April 2019, the RICS Professional Statement on service charges in commercial property replaced the third edition of RICS Service Charge Code.
It provides best practice guidance for managing and administering service charges for commercial property. It also sets out mandatory requirements for RICS members.
