Why the rule of law matters to us all
- Bicentenary
- Seminar
Due to overwhelming demand, in-person tickets have now sold out, but you can watch the livestream of the event on YouTube. We will not accept walk-ins on the day of the event.
The event will proceed as scheduled despite the planned tube strikes. If you would prefer to attend online, please contact us to arrange a ticket transfer.
In an increasingly uncertain world, this session will explore how the rule of law and human rights extend both nationally and globally, and consider the UK’s response to challenges and threats to the rule of law.
As the Law Society marks its 200th year, this is a valuable opportunity to explore how we can protect the future of our justice system.
The event will be a wide-ranging and informed discussion about cherishing the rule of law and human rights, what happens when we fail to do so, and why it matters to us all.

Join us for this in-conversation event, chaired by renowned journalist and presenter Emily Maitlis, where we’ll talk about how the UK protects these rules—also called the ‘rule of law’—so that everyone is treated fairly.
