In-house ethics framework consultation

Overview

Upholding a high standard of professional ethics is a cornerstone of our profession.

But with ethics, there are no absolutes. We know you're in a unique position as both legal and business advisers to your employers, which can often result in competing pressures and ethical dilemmas.

You've told us ethics is a key area where you'd like more support. As your professional body, we're here to help you navigate the unique ethical challenges in-house solicitors face.

We've been working on the first iteration of the framework in partnership with the Inter-Disciplinary Ethics Applied Centre (IDEA) at the University of Leeds.

The first iteration has been designed by professional ethicists and informed by in-house practitioners.

We'd like to thank the in-house practitioners who have given up their time to develop this version.

About the consultation

We're making the first iteration of the framework available now so we can review and improve it based on your experience of putting the guidance into practice.

We want to hear from you on how practical you find the framework and how it might be improved to be more useful in your day-to-day work in-house.

Share your feedback on this version of the framework to make sure we have a framework that best meets the needs of in-house solicitors.

You can complete the online form multiple times as you go through the resources.

Timeline

Wednesday 14 May – first iteration of framework shared for consultation with in-house solicitors

Thursday 3 July – join the conversation about the distinct challenges you encounter in your role at our complimentary in-house conference

Sunday 31 August – consultation closes and we start to review and improve the framework based on your experience of putting it into practice

Autumn 2025 – next steps announced and reviewed version published
