“I'm a commercial litigation solicitor. I plan to move from working in private practice to an in-house role working solely for my employer. Do I need professional indemnity insurance (PII)?”
If you work in-house only for your employer, you are not required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) to get PII that meets the minimum terms and conditions under the SRA Indemnity Insurance Rules 2013.
The liability of in-house solicitors should normally be covered by your employer's liability insurance.
You should clarify the insurance position and your potential exposure to claims with your employer.
You may need to take legal advice.
