The clinical negligence accreditation covers all work undertaken by solicitors and suitably qualified Fellows and members of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX), arising out of any act of negligence, breach of contract and/or statutory duty, as a result of which the victim has sustained injuries in the course of medical or dental care.
Practitioners who are not scheme members will remain free to undertake clinical negligence work but will not be identified as specialists.
The accreditation is for claimant solicitors or CILEX members. Clinical negligence defendants have their own selection criteria and the skills of the defendant lawyer may be very different from those used to advise claimants.
Members will have shown that they have achieved the required level of competence and knowledge in this area of law as defined by the Society.

Ensure that clients, and/or their representatives, are easily able to identify legal practitioners with proven competency in clinical negligence law.

Applications will be accepted from solicitors and legal executives. Non-solicitor applicants must be employed by a practice regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
