Networking tips for LGBT+ lawyers

Many (if not all) people find business networking artificial and a bit daunting. For LGBT+ people it has added complications.

During speed networking events held to mark LGBT History Month 2019, our LGBT+ Lawyers Division discussed networking, and we have now produced a short guide with tips to help you. This is designed to be printed out and folded so that you can keep it handy.

The tips cover generic issues such as:

  • body language
  • how to leave a conversation
  • what to do before, during and after the event.

They also address LGBT+ specific matters such as being ‘out’ and how to deal with homophobic or inappropriate conversations.

Members of our LGBT+ Lawyers Division committee discuss the tips and their own experiences in our podcast.

We are planning to run speed networking events across the country. If you are interested in hosting or working with us on these events, please contact LGBT@lawsociety.org.uk.
