Claire Quinn, relationship manager (North)Over the last month, our relationship management team has engaged with members around the country to discuss, among other things, technology and diversity and inclusion.

The team has also joined you in celebrating as members have been recognised in local legal awards ceremonies.

Claire Quinn, relationship manager (North), reports on last month’s activities.

Technology in the legal profession

Last month, the relationship management team and Law Society president, Christina Blacklaws, went to Derby to update the local profession on technology in the legal profession.

In particular, the discussion included what the Law Society is doing in terms of legal technology, AI and algorithms.

Presidents’ and Secretaries’ conference

The relationship management team has been continuing to finalise plans for the Presidents’ and Secretaries’ conference, taking place at Chancery Lane on 14 and 15 June.

The final programme will be available very shortly, but in the meantime you can watch a short video with highlights from the 2018 conference.

For any local law societies who have not yet booked, it’s not too late!

Diversity and inclusion regional forums

We have continued to hold regional diversity and inclusion forums.

In April, we had the second of our 2019 North diversity and inclusion forums. The event took place in Leeds and focused on mental health and wellbeing.

It was attended by human resources and diversity and inclusion representatives from a variety of firms from across the region.

Jodie Hill, managing director of Thrive Law, presented to the group on how her firm is approaching mental health in the workplace, and this was followed by a lively interactive discussion on the key issues.

Min Rodriguez, the Law Society’s interim head of diversity and inclusion, attended the event and updated the group on what the Law Society is doing on behalf of the profession on mental health.

Law Society CEO visits

Our chief executive, Paul Tennant, continues to be busy out in the regions meeting with members.

In April, we went with Paul to Nottingham to meet Nottingham Trent University and to hold a roundtable with Top 100 firms in the area. He also attended the Nottingham Annual Awards dinner.

Thank you to Manchester Law Society for welcoming us and Paul Tennant to their council meeting last month where Paul had an opportunity to present and meet with members.

Paul also had a productive meeting in Manchester with representatives from the Law Society’s Junior Lawyers Division.

Local law society awards and dinners

Well done to all of those shortlisted in upcoming local legal awards, and congratulations to those who have already won!

In April, the relationship management team were delighted to attend annual awards and dinners at local law societies in Derby and District, Leicestershire, and Devon and Somerset.

MLRO and MLCO peer-to-peer learning events

Law Society MLRO and MLCO peer-to-peer learning events are taking place around the country.

The Southampton event took place in April with around 25 members in attendance.

The event provided an opportunity for them to discuss challenges with anti-money laundering compliance and to share best practice.
