I work in-house and feel excluded by my organisation. What support is available?
“I'm an in-house solicitor. I feel unsupported because I am often excluded from the boardroom. Are there resources or networking groups available to help me?”
Our In-house Network provides support and advice on key issues facing all in-house solicitors.
The network is open to solicitors working in the corporate and public sectors, not-for-profit organisations and charities.
You can find support, share information and access professional resources for in-house solicitors.

Conflicts can occur if:
- the in-house solicitor's professional obligations and legal judgement conflict with what their employer is doing, and
- the employer does not understand the professional role of in-house solicitors they employ
The solicitor-client relationship becomes difficult to manage in these circumstances.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has guidance for:
- employers on a solicitor's professional obligations
- identifying your client when working in-house
- internal investigations
- legal professional privilege when working in-house
- key points for governing boards, chief executives and senior officers in organisations employing in-house solicitors
- reporting concerns about wrongdoing when working in-house
