How do I obtain a will from the Principal Probate Registry?
I’ve been instructed by a lay executor to administer an estate. The testator deposited the will with the Principal Probate Registry for safekeeping. How do I access the will to proceed with the administration of the estate?
To obtain the will, the executor will need:
- an official copy of the death certificate, and
- the certificate of deposit that the testator would have been given by the Probate Registry when the will was deposited with them
The executor should then download and complete form PA7A.
Make sure that the executor is aware that form PA7A requires a wet ink signature.
HM Courts and Tribunals Service will not accept an electronic signature for this document.
Post the completed form, together with the certificate of deposit and official copy death certificate, to:

No fee is payable for the withdrawal of a will.
