President awarded alumna of the year at King’s College London’s Distinguished Alumni Awards

Law Society of England and Wales president I. Stephanie Boyce has been awarded the Alumna of the Year award at the King’s College London Distinguished Alumni Awards.

“I am delighted to receive this award, which recognises distinguished alumni and students who’ve demonstrated outstanding professional achievement to King’s and society,” said I. Stephanie Boyce.

“I am passionate about the role solicitors play in upholding the rule of law and have made it my mission to improve diversity and inclusion in the legal profession during my time in office.

“I’ve made no secret of the setbacks I faced trying to break into the legal sector coming from a single-parent household on a council estate without access to those all-important networks, I found I didn’t have the connections that others may have had to get their foot in the door when I was starting out.

“However, I kept persevering and eventually qualified as a solicitor in 2002, having found a training contract at a local firm in Buckinghamshire.

“My LLM from King’s College led me to act as a legal advisor to a number of companies, where I gave advice on the efficient running of corporate governance and regulatory affairs.

“I firmly believe in the power of role models. If you can see it, you can be it. During my time as president, I’ve seen how I have inspired aspiring solicitors from all types of backgrounds to start their journey towards qualification.

“I look forward to receiving my award this evening alongside my fellow alumni.”
